Sunday Speakers

During the 2012 - 2013 year, we are proud to offer an eight-part monthly speakers series, Sundays at 9 am. Since it is an election year and one in which religion seems to be playing a prominent role — it seemed appropriate to develop a series of talks on faith in the United States.

Each talk will be given by a speaker with a unique expertise on the subject. Here are the topics and dates. As the summer goes by we will announce the speakers who will address each of these topics.

September 16: Faith in a New World: Religion in the American Colonies of the 17th and 18th Centuries

October 21: Faith and the Constitution: What Did the Founding Fathers Believe?

November 18: Faith and the Civil War: Slaves, Slaveholders, Abolitionists, North, South

January 13: American Faith Goes West: Mormonism, the Indian Wars, and the Gold Rush in the Late 19th Century

February 10: Faith Among The Immigrants: The Early 20th Century Wave and the Nativist Response

March 10: Faith Through Two World Wars and Beyond: Holding Fast in a Violent World

April 14: Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n' Roll, and Faith: Religion Amidst the Countercultural Movements of the '60s and '70s

May 5: Spiritual But Not Religious: Why Are So Many Americans Turning Away From Church?
