FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES features a weekly full-length film shown by wide-screen projection in the Narthex at 7:00 p.m. Free Popcorn. July 30: I Capture the Castle (UK, 2003) To save the crumbling castle in which he resides, James Mortmain attempts to marry off his young daughters to the two wealthy American men who've arrived to take ownership.
TAKE A TOUR of the organ on Aug. 1, after the 10:15 a.m. service. Dwight Thomas, director of music ministries, will demonstrate how the organ works and put it through its paces. Come up to the white marble area at the front of the church to begin the tour.
Our Sunday morning adult education offerings get under way again this Sunday, when Canon Jamie McElroy will start a five-week class focused on The Life You Save May Be Your Own: An American Pilgrimage, by Paul Elie. The book focuses on the lives of four prominent 20th-century Catholics: Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton, Flannery O'Connor and Walker Percy.You need not read the book to participate in the class. There will be handouts and excerpts, which will also be posted here, so you can keep up even if you can't attend class one Sunday.
BASEBALL WITH THE BISHOP is scheduled for Aug. 27, 7:10 p.m. at Tropicana Field. The Rays will face the Boston Red Sox and the first 10,000 fans wearing Rays gear will receive a collectible t-shirt. Tickets in our reserved upper infield section are $20; a portion of the fee benefits the Episcopal Charities Fund. To attend, notify the church office and make your check out to St. Peter’s. MEMORIAL BRICKS to be placed in the City Peace Garden are now available. These are original 1924 clay bricks that were salvaged from the First Baptist Church. You can honor an individual, group or event by having information engraved on the brick. Each brick can hold up to 3 lines of text, with 12 characters on each line. Bricks are available for a $100 donation, which is tax deductible. For more information, contact Martha Goodwill in the church office.
